Why I started a blog…

If you are like me, then you have probably been bitten by the blog bug at one point or another. And most likely, you’ve gotten bored with reading blogs, making comments, etc.

If that’s the case, then thanks for at least stopping by to check out my blog, and as long as you’re here, I thought I would let you know why I decided to start blogging.

For the past seven years, I have been studying Religion, Philosophy, Biblical Studies, Church History, and Theology. During that time, I asked a lot of questions, searched for a lot of answers, made conclusions, and continue searching for others. Unlike some fields of study, most questions in theology do not have definite answers, and some would even argue that answers are undesirable. Regardless of whether or not you agree with that, you would probably agree that often the most beneficial aspect of thinking theologically (and we all do!) is the actual search.

I’ve come to believe that we benefit the most from theology in the process of doing theology, that is, by asking questions, discussing with others, digging into the sources of theology, and drawing conclusions, and then starting all over again.

It is my hope that this blog will serve as a safe location for this process to happen. So, feel free to read and join the discussion.

  1. how is that today is August 4th yet your post is from August 5th….wait are you writing this from the future!!!?

  2. Ben, Your Married now! Cool man!

    For Ben and anybody else…

Any views on the Presidential Race? Looking at all the views of the candidates, who do you believe a Christian should vote for? Is the answer always Republican?

Just throwing it out there. I know my answer, but I’d like to know yours too.

  3. Ok, I just want to be sure… Is this blog intended for discussion, or is it just a collection of random thoughts that go through Ben’s head?

  4. David: Good to see you stopped by. Yes, the blog is intended for discussion. In my head, I envisioned it as a place where people can come read what I and others have written and respond. I’m going to steal your idea and make today’s post about politics!

    PS marriage rocks!

Jacob: good to see you are a facebook fiend and responded to my evite! The comic is great… all I need now is a red cape.

  5. David, one more thing about hte discussion piece. The first few posts I made to the blog were experimenting with different blogging software… so I just said random thoughts that come to mind. I’ll try to minimize those…

  6. Reply to David H’s comment about politics. I find it interesting that Christians marry themselves to one party. I am a complete moderate. The underlying philosophies of both parties merged together would give a better Christian party. My take on voting is simple…Ask GOD. Really God will put into power who is meant to be and for whatever reason. That does not mean I do not vote but I do ask God who to vote for. I also keep my ticket balanced…if I go one way for pres. I go the other for house.
